How to use the rank checker

A rank checker shows what position your website holds on Google for a given keyword. The query runs against a non-personalised result set, independent of your browser — so it can differ from your own search, but it is closer to the real average.

1. 1 Enter your website — Type the domain whose ranking you want to check. Subdomains and full URLs are accepted; matching is done on the root domain.
2. 2 Enter the keyword — Use the exact phrase people search for. "rank checker" and "google rank checker" are different result sets.
3. 3 Pick city and device — For queries with local intent the city changes results noticeably, and mobile and desktop SERPs are not necessarily the same.
4. 4 Read your position — The tool scans the first 100 organic results and reports your best position, the matching URL, the top 10 competitors and SERP features such as the featured snippet.

What position does my site rank at?

The tool scans the first 100 organic results and finds your best position by root-domain matching. If a subdomain or a different page ranks, it is reported as the matching URL. If you do not appear in the top 100, you do not yet have a page competing for that keyword.

Why can the position change between checks?

Google results vary by location, device and time, and different data centres can return different positions for the same query. A single check is a snapshot; what matters is the trend — measuring the same keyword with the same city and device settings over time.

Is position alone enough?

No. Even at position 3, if someone else owns the featured snippet they take a large share of the clicks. That is why the tool also reports the featured snippet owner, related user questions and related searches — direct input for your content plan.
